We utilize a four step process in our consulting which is tailored to the level of support you need. These four steps typically are as follows:

  1. Evaluate your entire Productivity division or specific areas identified and make recommendations for improvement
  2. Develop an action plan to guide the improvement work for either your team or a combined hospital-consultant team
  3. Provide project leadership or hands-on support for implementation as needed
  4. Provide an operations dashboard and training that allows the organization to monitor progress and ensure the gains are maintained.

Assessment Planning and Implementation

Phase One – Assessment: Optional areas of focus during our Assessment:

  • Complete a thorough assessment of each department’s internal operations
  • On nursing units, evaluate the complexity of the patients, patient needs, and staff expertise
  • Evaluate support systems and interdepartmental factors
  • Benchmark the department against high performing peers
  • Establish a balance between cost, quality, and service expectations
  • Develop realistic short and long term, volume-based labor targets
  • Develop staffing plans and, on nursing units, staffing grids
  • Develop detailed recommendation to achieve staffing targets
  • Work with staff, management and administration to achieve buy-in on the targets and recommendations
  • Install daily and biweekly productivity reports, as needed
  • Install balanced score card, as needed
  • Develop detailed implementation plan
  • Assist management and administration with implementation

  • Who is on point for each activity/outcome
  • Identification of key considerations for success
  • By when should work occur with attention paid to both prioritization and sequencing
